What is the Volvo Team Tour?
The Volvo Team Tour is a series of professionally organised events which provide an opportunity for amateur handicap golfers to play competitively in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere at good quality courses throughout the UK. The Tour is new for 2010 and as the title suggests competitors enter and play in teams of two and teams may be mixed. Competitors can team up with different players at the various events and the order of merit is run on an individual basis. The Team Tour has its own order of merit and the leading four competitors at the end of the season will qualify to play in the VMA UK Final at Vale do Lobo in Portugal in November 2010 with the opportunity of going on to qualify for the VMA World Final in the spring of 2011.

Who can play on the Volvo Team Tour?
All golfers, male and female of all levels of ability are welcome to play in the events. All we insist on is that you have either a current handicap issued by a CONGU affiliated golf club or a FORE Society handicap. The maximum playing handicap is 24 for men and 30 for ladies. You must enter as a pair. Competitors under the age of 18 are welcome to take part but must be accompanied by an adult. Competitors under the age of 18 can qualify for the UK Final but they are ineligible to qualify for the Volvo Masters Amateur World Final and will be awarded a voucher for £150 in lieu of a place in the World Final should they qualify.

What is the playing format?
Competitors enter and play as a team of two and the scoring format is Betterball stableford with three quarters handicap allowance. The maximum playing handicap is 24 for men and 30 for ladies. Teams may be mixed. Competitors can play with different players in the various events and each player is awarded meirit points depending on their team score and where they finish in a particular event. The Team Tour Order of Merit is managed on an individual basis.

What does a typical day include?
Coffee and bacon rolls await competitors on arrival at the golf club. The first match usually tees off from about 10am. The golf is followed by a 2/3 course dinner and prize presentation at approximately 5.00pm and the day winds up at about 6.30pm. When we have 60 or more competitors playing the food is served on a rolling basis so that earlier starters do not need to wait for the presentation.

How do I enter the events?

  • Click the ‘ENTER’ button on the above menu
  • Email entries@volvogolf.co.uk
  • Call the Tournament Office on 0845 466 2222
If entering online you will first need to Register by adding your email address and a password in the appropriate boxes after pressing the ‘ENTER’ button on the top menu bar. Player A is required to pay the relevant deposit at the time of entering to confirm. Player A will be allocated a unique Team Code for each event. Player B will also be required to register and enter the appropriate Team Code for each event to ensure that the correct players are paired together for merit point purposes.
If Player A chooses not to pay the deposit at the time of entry the team will appear under Unconfirmed Entries for that event and later entrants who pay will take precedent.

Do I have to join Volvo in Golf / FORE Society?
No you don’t need to join Volvo in Golf or the FORE Society. All competitors will be awarded merit points.

Do you monitor handicaps?
We monitor handicaps very carefully and at each event we ask to see proof of handicap as competitors check in.

How does the Order of Merit Work?
Every event on the schedule counts towards the OoM.
  • Merit points are awarded on the basis of 100 to each player in the winning team, 99 points to each player in the second team, 98 for each player in third and so on.
  • A competitor’s final OoM position is determined by the total merit points accumulated in his/her best three results throughout the season. Competitor’s can play in as few or as many events as they wish but it is only their best three results that count on the OoM so that no one can buy their way to the top of the table.
